Forever Stand

“My lands are where my dead lie buried”

He prepares for battle, a vast
plain stretches before him
Beyond, a great land with
plentiful game, trees and grass
A Great Spirit abounds that
precedes cavalry and train
It communes by drumbeat
pipe, chant and mask

What surrounds us all
is our merciless plunder
Of their great land
under rolling thunder
Does anyone listen when
the drumbeats sound
For decades we’ve floated
the eagle around
Should we give back what’s
been theirs all along
Or, keep paying our tribute
with movie and song
I’ll do something for them
what little I can
And assure them their Spirit
still reigns o’er the land
For if we carve a mountain
for mankind to see
It will stand with their pride
an eternity
